2018 global news in images

by

As we move into the new year as a network, let us reflect back on important events of 2018 that affected members of our global network, and which move and inspire us to continue doing the work of abortion stigma busting.

As a network, we celebrate the victory and the release from prison of Imelda Cortez of El Salvador, and the power to change the status quo of united, international, collective actions led by local feminists organizations. We salute the 125 women in Seoul, Korea who ingested an abortion pill collectively in public as an act of protest against restrictive abortion laws as well as abortion rights activists in Indonesia who fought until justice for the 15 year old rape-survivor. We express a sense of shared relief at the reopening of Marie Stopes clinics in East Africa, and recognize the additional struggles that many independent clinics have undergone in the wake of US President Trump’s reinstatement of the Global Gag Rule. We want to give a show of solidarity to our many fellow members in Ireland who have succeeded in their movement to Repeal the 8th amendment, as well as to the green scarves of Argentina as well as the Polish activists who are unwilling to bow down to state pressure, and whose persistence has created an international wave of stigma-busting organizing and direct action throughout the world.
