Financial Analyst and Budget Manager

Required skills and competencies: 

  • Building program and organizational budgets
  • Interpreting reports from external bookkeeping/accounting company
  • Use of relational databases to manage finance information storage and retrieval
  • Create integrations between financial management applications
  • Advanced use of the majority of the following:
    • Accounting software, such as Quickbooks or Xero
    • Excel, including custom template development, pivot tables, and efficient financial reporting
    • Google Suite
    • Microsoft Office
    • Basic procurement principles
    • Preferred: Airtable and BambooHR (or ability to learn!)
  • Ability to talk about budgets and accounting to people who are unfamiliar with finance and accounting terminology
  • Comfort working with people across socio-political contexts and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong commitment to inroads mission and values

Duties

  • Primary interface with bookkeeping and accounting vendors
  • Work with external accounting company to ensure that key financial reports are filed accurately and timely (US Federal Tax filings, Washington State filings) 
  • Coordinate payroll processing for US-based employees
  • Ensure that contract employees are paid based on BambooHR data and expense reporting
  • Prepare donor-facing financial reports
  • Support program managers in preparing accurate program and proposal budgets
  • Monitor spending and ensure that all expenditures are appropriately coded with regards to funding source and expense category
  • Dedicate time and energy to collective staff processes and engaging in strategic planning, threat assessments, and Conflict Transformation process when necessary. 
  • Collaborate with and support staff in the creation of program budgets by creating costing/budgeting documents, tracking forms, and financial analysis tools that support the unique needs of inroads staff and members
  • Develop Annual Operating Budget (AOB) procedures, support program managers in developing inputs for AOB

Experience

  • 3-4 years experience of program financial management and analysis and at least one year of experience managing organizational budgets or a complex portfolio of budgets
  • Experience developing financial reports for donors (non-governmental or governmental)
  • Significant professional experience with finances in more than one country
  • Management of organizational tax and legal requirements

Preferred Skills

  • Fluency in language other than English
  • Experience creating or using procurement policies
  • Significant experience living in or demonstrable connection to the Global South
  • Experience with funding or managing finances for informal, grassroots, or community based organizations
  • Finance, accounting, business management, or related degree or course
  • Experience applying different values and approaches to financial management
  • Start-up business experience

Level of Effort:  Full Time, 32/hrs per week. 5-10% travel required (upon resumption of post-covid programming) 

Location and Time Zone: Remote. This is a fully remote position. Preference will be given to those living in or with significant experience in the Global South. To collaborate with inroads legal team, leadership, and accounting firm, this position holder will need to have at least 3 weekly work hours that overlap with US Pacific Standard Time. 

Compensation: inroads has a Global Pay Equity Scale that we will apply to the region that a successful applicant lives (Our competitive pay scale will be made available to everyone who we invite to interview in the interview invitation, and a candidate’s equity multiplier will be based on the location they share in their application and confirmed during the interview). This role would be leveled as a Manager, and depending on the location and needs of the successful candidate, receives either health, PTO, and retirement benefits or a contract that ensures equitable access to locally available benefits.
