We are looking for a Development Operations Consultant to help our team set a fundraising strategy for inroads to accomplish our Strategic Plan and bolster our existing staff and board capacity. We’re hoping to bring a consultant who will add value to our complex, nuanced work as we collectively work to improve systems and keep program and development work moving. 

Position Summary: 

Inroads is looking for a Development Consultant to strengthen staff and board capacity with strategic proposal development and the cultivation of our new individual giving program. This consultant will work closely with the Executive Director and the Fundraising team and will participate in regular staff meetings, ad hoc fundraising work sessions, and bi-weekly check-ins to identify, codify, and advance inroads fundraising strategies and to strengthen staff and Board capacity. The duration of the contract is flexible between 4 to 8 months for approximately 30 hours per month (not to exceed 40 hours per month and 20 hours at a minimum).

Qualifications: 

This individual must have outstanding interpersonal skills, an appreciation for different viewpoints, and a talent for working well with diverse people and organizations. They should have experience implementing ethical fundraising strategies in feminist organizations and with organizations based in and who do work in the Global South. They should be knowledgeable of the way stigma impacts people who need abortions, people advocating for abortion, and people and institutions providing abortion, as well as the abortion, Reproductive Justice, and broader SRHR funding landscapes. Scope Overview: 

  • Collaborate with inroads Fundraising team to develop stepwise fundraising strategy to accomplish the new inroads Strategic Plan, including a new strategy to cultivate individual donors. Plan should include short term fundraising goals and activities as well as a strategic approach for long term fundraising and donor partnerships.
  • Lead and set expectations for inroads development policies and procedures.
  • Draft proposals and LOI templates with clear organizational goals, objectives and strategies that present inroads values globally. 
  • Cultivate new and expanded relationships with current and potential funders.
  • Collaborate with Operations team to design, develop, and implement an easy-to-use donor management system.
  • Collaborate with Communications team to develop strategic communications that increase reach towards and retention of individual donors. 
  • Support the Executive Director and Board of Directors in implementing a development plan and cultivating and expanding relationships with current and potential funders. 
  • Work with the Fundraising team to identify new or improved paths of funding for general operations, organizational health and growth, and programs. 
  • Write grant proposals and reports as necessary. 
  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner
  • Monitor and assess success of fundraising activities and processes
  • Plan and execute special fundraising events to generate funds for the organization 
  • Develop policies and procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices
  • Consult with team on best practices for donor management and communications.
  • Assess and improve internal functions and systems to facilitate communications and interactions among membership, stakeholders and funders.
  • Attend team meetings.
